DocuSign review (2026): features, pros and cons, and what to check before you buy
DocuSign eSignature is the category-leading e-signature product, sold per user with envelope caps and a wider agreement platform.
Our take for buyers
DocuSign eSignature is the category leader for e-signature and a common default for regulated and high-value signing. Its plans list ISO 27001:2022, SOC 1 and SOC 2 Type 2, PCI-DSS, 21 CFR Part 11 and HIPAA, which is the main reason compliance-focused buyers shortlist it. Page-listed standards are a starting point, and you still need to request the reports themselves.
Treat it as a strong candidate if audit and compliance depth matter, or if you rely on Salesforce and other major integrations. Be careful if you send high envelope volumes on lower plans, because Standard and Business Pro are capped near 100 envelopes per user per year, and note that SSO is shown only with Enhanced for 50 or more users.

What to test in a DocuSign demo or trial
Estimate your real envelope volume per user before the trial, since the cap on Standard and Business Pro is the most likely surprise. In the trial, test your actual signing flow, including any identity checks, SMS or WhatsApp delivery and qualified signatures, and note which are metered. Check the integrations you depend on, such as Salesforce. Ask what happens when a user passes the envelope cap, and confirm whether your user count will pass 50, which moves you to Enhanced.
